Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

acum. is made and run by Roman Bitca, an independent developer in the Republic of Moldova (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the acum. app for iPhone and its Home Screen widgets (“the app”), the website e-acum.md, and the service at api.e-acum.md that supplies the app's data. Roman Bitca is the controller responsible for any personal data processed through them.

2. What we don't collect

• There's no account or sign-in, so we never ask for your name, email address, phone number or other contact details.
• There's no advertising, no analytics or tracking tools, and no third-party code in the app that collects data. The app doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites, which is why it never asks for permission to track.
• The app doesn't send us your location, contacts, photos, device identifiers or usage history.

3. What stays on your iPhone

Location, only if you allow it

If you give permission (“While Using the App”, or for widgets “While Using the App or Widgets”), the app reads your approximate location, to about 100 metres. It uses it to show how far you are from gas stations, bank branches and border crossings, and to list the nearest first. This happens on your iPhone: your location is not sent to us. The app keeps its latest location on your iPhone, in storage shared only with its own widgets, so the widgets can show what's near you. They use it for up to 6 hours.

Two things leave your iPhone, and only when you use them:

• The Cheapest fuel widget asks Apple Maps for the driving distance and time to the station. For that request, Apple receives the start and end points, under Apple's Privacy Policy.
• When you tap for directions, the app opens the maps app you chose in Settings (Apple Maps, Google Maps, Yandex Maps or Waze) with the destination. That app's own privacy policy applies.

You can change or withdraw location access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → acum. The app works without it: it just doesn't show distances, and the widgets measure from the centre of Chișinău.

Your settings

Your base currency, maps app, notification switches and widget choices are saved on your iPhone and never sent to us.

Border wait reports

The Border tab has a form for reporting the wait you see, but this feature isn't live yet: a report isn't sent or stored anywhere. If we start collecting reports, we'll update this policy first.

Deleting the app deletes everything it stored.

4. What reaches our servers

Requests for public data

To show rates, prices, stations and border waits, the app downloads public data from our service at api.e-acum.md. A request only names the data needed, for example a currency, a date range or a border crossing. It contains no account, name or device identifier.

Like any connection on the internet, each request arrives with an IP address and basic technical details, such as the app and iOS version. This is what happens to them:

• Our service keeps the IP address in memory for up to 60 seconds, to limit abusive traffic. It isn't written to disk or logged.
• Our servers keep a short technical log of requests (which data was asked for and how long it took) with no IP addresses or device details. It's overwritten automatically.
• The web server for e-acum.md keeps no access log.

Our service providers

• Cloudflare, Inc. delivers and protects our website and service (fast delivery, encryption and protection against attacks). To do that it processes connection data such as IP addresses, in data centres around the world including the United States, under its Data Processing Addendum, which includes the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. • Hetzner Online GmbH hosts our servers in a data centre in Germany (EU). Our database there holds only public data, such as exchange rates, prices, stations and border waits, and nothing about you. See Hetzner's Privacy Policy.

We only use providers that are bound to protect data at least as well as this policy describes.

Live border cameras

When you open a border camera, the video streams straight from the servers of the Border Police of the Republic of Moldova (border.gov.md), which see your IP address like any website you visit. We receive nothing from that connection.

Where our data comes from

Our servers collect public information from the National Bank of Moldova, MAIB, MICB, Victoriabank and curs.md, the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE), the border police of Moldova and Romania, Moldova's Customs Service, Ukraine's eCherha queue service and OpenStreetMap. We never send them anything about you.

5. Apple

The App Store handles downloads and updates under Apple's own privacy policy. If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers (iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements), Apple may give us crash reports and statistics that don't identify you. We use them only to fix bugs and improve the app.

6. The website

e-acum.md sets no cookies and uses no analytics, advertising or tracking. Cloudflare processes connection data as described in section 4.

7. Why we process this data

We process only the technical data described in section 4, and only to deliver the service you ask for and keep it secure and working. That is our legitimate interest under Moldova's law on personal data protection and, where it applies, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Location is used only with your permission, which you can withdraw at any time.

8. Selling and sharing

We don't sell, rent or share personal data, and we don't work with advertisers or data brokers. Apart from the service providers in section 4, data only goes to Apple or to the maps app you choose, and only when you use those features.

9. How long we keep data

• On your iPhone: until you change the setting or delete the app.
• IP addresses: up to 60 seconds, in memory only.
• Technical logs: contain no personal data and are overwritten automatically.
• Crash reports and statistics from Apple: only as long as needed to fix the problem.
• Emails you send us: only as long as needed to help you, and deleted within 12 months after the conversation ends.

10. Your rights and choices

• Location: turn it off or change it in iOS Settings at any time.
• Deletion: delete the app to remove everything it stored. There's no account to delete.
• Your rights: under Moldova's data protection law and the GDPR you can ask to access, correct or delete personal data about you, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format, and you can withdraw consent. Because we don't keep data that identifies you, there's usually nothing we can find about you, but write to [email protected] and we'll answer within 30 days.
• Complaints: you can complain to a data protection authority. In Moldova, that's the National Center for Personal Data Protection (datepersonale.md); in the EU, the authority in your country.

11. Children

acum. is suitable for all ages. It collects no personal data from anyone, including children.

12. Security

All connections to our website and service are encrypted (HTTPS). Beyond that, we keep as little data as possible: data we don't have can't be lost or misused.

13. Changes to this policy

If our practices change, for example when border reports go live, we'll update this page and its date before the change takes effect, and mention important changes in the app's release notes.
